Mechanical Daydreams at Leeds Industrial Museum, Armley Mills
There has always been something fascinating to me about old and decaying machinery. It seems – to me at least -to be not so much dying as entering a new and more organic state in which it will stand like a work of art, an ancient monument to be discovered once again far in the future
I think that’s one of the reasons I like Leeds Industrial Museum so much. It’s a wonderful capsule of our industrial history, but also a strangely calming space in which the machines that once spin wool into clothes seem to be finding new purposes perhaps known only to them. A place once devoted exclusively to work, business, production now seems like a playground of possibilities.

Fascinating photos. This links with a book I’m presently reading about Blake by Bronowski.
