The Tree at the End of Time
Between the beginning and the end, there is sometimes only the length of a breath, the merest glimpse of a possibility.
But the end still comes when it must.
The temptation is there, of course; to defy time, to make a different ending for it all.
Those that try, even with the very best of intentions, become wraiths living half-lives, dragged back eventually to where they started from.
The ending that was always going to be, waits. Implacable.
