We Are Part of a System Whether We Like it or Not
Fight the system, they tell us. Don’t be a part of it, they tell us.
All well and good and Orwellian. Except that, just by living on the Earth, we always belong to a system, one that is ultimately more important than our sense of individual entitlement. Without the relationship between plant and insects, without the millions of complex interactions happening everyday between different forms of life, we perish. We can’t fight the ecosystem because we form part of it by being alive. And if we wreck it through our own greed and self-absorption, then we will have lost our right to survive.
The system will carry on just fine without us.
