Descending to the Deep
Descending to the Deep
Man digs channels and tunnels into the earth, but there is something frightening about the thought of going down there. A ladder descending into deep water can look scarily like an invitation to a drowning. Although they are manmade, these places remain forbidden and dangerous. Their very functionality reminds us of the vulnerability of our bodies.
And yet…still there is that urge to go down. To find out what is under our feet, lurking in the water, waiting in the dark. To test our nerve. Perhaps, ultimately, to see if we can descend to the deep and still return.
