Abstract Dionysus

Dionysus was an Ancient Greek god of wine, music, fertility and religious passion. He was a good time deity who, according to the writings of the philosopher Nietzsche, represented chaos and unrepressed feeling in opposition to the forces of reason. He has been associated with various animals including the bull and reptiles.

For this piece, I imagined Dionysus reborn into an abstract world and making his presence felt in this two dimensional landscape.

The image was created using a photo of mounted stag horns as a starting point. The other elements were then added with Paint software.
