Walking Through Cities: Part 21
Platform 2 (Wakefield Westgate)
You don’t have to be a train spotter to like train stations. You don’t even have to like trains, though it probably helps. Everything about them – the lines receding in either direction, the announcements, the departures and arrivals board – taps into that basic excitement of going from one place to another. Each station is different, reflecting something of the place that it is in. If you’ve ever felt the energized, edgy buzz of Kings Cross in London, you’ll know what I mean. Stories – murders and brief encounters alike – have begun and ended in stations.
Train’s coming.
